beauty is in the street

a few weeks ago (was it months?) we talked andrew at the newly opened idahostel (upstairs from our shop) into letting us paint a seriously shameless self-promotional mural in the common room of his hostel.  thanks andrew!  our other neighbors at ibeam had previously recorded kelly knopp painting his mural, and we wanted in on that action.  joe set up a camera, and reduced what was a 6 hour projector adjusting, paint spilling, ladder climbing, beer drinking adventure into 27 seconds of perceived effortlessness.

‘la beaute est dans la rue’ (and the image associated with it) is a ripoff of a french ‘affiche’ (poster) from the revolution in paris in may 1968, made by a group known as ‘situationists‘.  we thought it was awesome and true, so we slapped an idaho behind it (like we do with nearly everything these days) and made it our own.  the situtationists would be glad we did.

we also used the image for our most recent issue of ‘cobble’ magazine – which we still have a few copies of.  turns out, adbusters had the same idea.

i love serendipity…it makes me believe the sentiment even more strongly.  beauty is in the street.
